Turnips

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Bland

    Step 1

So whoever heard of a lively turnip? You can try to liven yours up with either dill seed, dill weed, or poppy seeds in the cooking water, and good luck to you.

  2. Old

    Step 2

Old turnips will taste younger and better if you blanch them before cooking. To blanch a turnip, plunge it into a pot of boiling water large enough so that the boiling doesn’t stop. Leave it in for 5 minutes and then proceed as you will. You can blanch your turnips in advance, dipping them in cold water after the 5 minutes to stop the cooking, and use them much later if you wish.

  3. Smelly

    Step 3

Turnips will smell a lot less if you add 1 teaspoon sugar to the cooking water.
