When in doubt, add soda. The resulting highball (about 2 ounces of any booze filled to the top with soda) is refreshing—and impossible to mess up.

Recipe information

  • Yield

    1 cocktail

Ingredients

1 teaspoon elderflower cordial or syrup
1½ ounces añejo tequila
1 lemon
Club soda (for serving)

Preparation

  1. Step 1

Stir 1 teaspoon elderflower cordial or syrup, 1½ ounces añejo tequila, and two 3x1" strips lemon zest, thinly sliced lengthwise, in an ice-filled highball glass until very cold, about 30 seconds. Top off with club soda.

    Step 2

Using a small serrated knife, remove a 1" strip of peel from a lemon (some white pith is okay); it should be stiff enough to provide some resistance when bent. Twist over drink to express oils; discard.
