Ingredients

1 bottle tawny port
2 tablespoons superfine sugar
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
1/2 cup grapefruit juice
Juice and rind of 1 lemon
1/4 cup raisins
1 cup water

Preparation

  1. Pour wine into a heavy saucepan and add all ingredients except the raisins and water. Heat gently. Meanwhile, put the raisins into a small saucepan with the water and slowly bring to a boil. Add water with raisins to the hot wine mixture and pour into a metal punch bowl. Serve in 4-ounce glasses.
