Ingredients: 4 large egg yolks; 1 1/2 teaspoons finely grated fresh lemon zest; 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice; 2/3 cup sugar; 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar; 2 sticks (1 cup) cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces; 4 large eggs, separated; 1/4 cup sugar; 1/4 cup all-purpose flour; 1/4 cup cornstarch; 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; 1/2 teaspoon finely grated fresh lemon zest; 1/3 cup confectioners sugar plus additional for dusting

Chillingsworth, in Brewster on Cape Cod, was one of several restaurants that caused a great deal of mail to flow into our You Asked for It department during the '60s and '70s. This homespun lemon roll is part of its legacy.
