Café Brûlot

Ingredients

3/4 cup brandy (or a mixture of rum and brandy)
6 cloves
2 tablespoons sugar
A few strips of orange peel
3 cups brewed coffee

Preparation

  1. Drag out the chafing dish, or herd everybody into the kitchen; this is too spectacular to be missed. In the chafing dish, heat the brandy, cloves, sugar, and orange peel. When it is nice and hot, ignite the vapors. Slowly add the 3 cups coffee to the flaming mixture, stirring slowly as you do. Serve in your smallest cups; this is supposed to be drunk from a demitasse.
