Ingredients

4 heaping cups peeled, diced sweet apples
1/2 cup natural granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons nonhydrogenated margarine
4 cups fresh bread crumbs

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F.

    Step 2

    In a mixing bowl, combine the apples with the sugar and cinnamon, and stir together.

    Step 3

    In a 9 by 9-inch nonstick baking pan, arrange layers of half of the apple mixture. Dot with half of the margarine, then sprinkle with half of the bread crumbs. Repeat the layers, then sprinkle 1/4 cup water over the top.

    Step 4

    Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake until the top is golden brown, about 10 minutes more. Serve warm.
